UW Visual Arts Faculty Members to Host Visiting Artists Discussion April 24

Multimedia artists Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese will be the guests for a public discussion and conversation with University of Wyoming Department of Visual arts faculty members at the UW Visual Arts Building Thursday, April 24.

The program will be from 5-6:30 p.m. in Room 111 of the UW Visual Arts Building, located adjacent to the Centennial Complex. The event is free and open to the public.

Known collectively as “LigoranoReese,” the artists have explored many different media over the course of their four-decade partnership. Their installations, “Borrowed Time” and “Vanishing Finish,” open at the UW Art Museum Saturday, April 26, as part of the larger exhibition “Sympoiesis: Co-Creating Sense of Place.”

The artists will give a formal presentation on their work and participate in a moderated discussion with UW Department of Visual Arts faculty members Tessa Dallarossa and Brandon Gellis. The conversation will center on the question, “What is conceptual art?”

“Vanishing Finish,” which opens in the UW Art Museum lobby, features 49 cyanotype prints of endangered keystone species drawn from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s “Red List,” the U.S. endangered species list and other sources.

In the museum’s rotunda gallery, the installation “Borrowed Time” will feature six wall clocks -- one for each U.S. time zone. The artists selected a natural disaster that occurred in each time zone to be represented in a before-and-after lenticular.
