The University of Wyoming College of Law has selected Ethan Drewes and Victoria Dunivan
as recipients of 2025-26 Brimmer Scholarships.
The Brimmer Scholarships are the College of Law’s premier scholarships. They are awarded to students after their first two years of law school for their final year of law school. The scholarships honor the late Clarence Brimmer, a long-serving judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming.
“We are honored to continue Judge Brimmer’s legacy and are grateful that donors have made these scholarships available to our exceptional students,” says College of Law Dean Julie Hill, who notes that people who passed through Brimmer’s courtroom remember his courtesy, fairness and deep knowledge of the law.
Drewes, of Longmont, Colo., has had plenty of opportunities to hone his writing and editing skills at the College of Law. He was selected as an editor for the fall 2024 issue of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. He also has served as the student director of the Business Planning Practicum, which provides legal advice to entrepreneurs. Next fall, he will serve as the editor-in-chief of the Wyoming Law Review.
As an undergraduate student at UW, Drewes played football and earned a walk-on scholarship.
Dunivan, of Walsh, Colo., is committed to addressing access to justice issues in rural areas. During law school, she has spent time as an intern at the Colorado Access to Justice Commission. In addition to earning her Juris Doctor, Dunivan is pursuing a master’s degree in environment and natural resources from UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources.
Next year, Dunivan with be the student director of the College of Law’s Estate Planning and Probate Clinic. She sees natural resources law and estate planning as areas of demand in rural areas. Before law school, Dunivan spent several summers working at a grain elevator.
The scholarship selection committee chose the scholarship winners from a pool of six finalists. The rigorous selection process includes an essay application and in-person interviews. The other finalists were Conner Balliet, of Berthoud, Colo.; Gabriel Ewing, of Wellington, Colo.; Madison Looper, of Riverton; and Emily Wangen, of Albert Lea, Minn.
“All of the Brimmer finalists exemplify excellence and have contributed to the College of Law in meaningful and enduring ways,” says Fremont County District Judge Jason Conder, a former law clerk of Brimmer and a member of this year’s selection committee.
