Alexander Appointed UW’s Interim Provost

A seasoned academic leader and economist at the University of Wyoming has been appointed interim provost, UW’s chief academic officer, effective Aug. 1.

Anne Alexander, currently the assistant dean of the College of Business, assumes the role following the conclusion of Scott Turpen’s term as interim provost. Alexander previously served in this capacity and brings deep institutional knowledge and administrative experience to the position.

Her appointment was approved this week by the UW Board of Trustees. 

“Dr. Alexander is a respected and capable leader with a long history of service to UW,” President Ed Seidel says. “Her steady leadership will help guide the university through this important transition.” 

“As someone who has been shaped by Wyoming and this university, I’m deeply honored and humbled to serve during this important transition. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated university community and President Seidel to advance our mission and move UW forward with purpose and momentum,” Alexander says. 

Alexander earned her Ph.D. in economics from UW and currently serves as the assistant dean of the College of Business. She has previously held roles as director of International Programs, associate dean of Outreach and director of UW’s Health Economics Policy Center. She also is an alumna of Leadership Wyoming. 

Seidel expresses appreciation for Turpen’s leadership during his interim tenure.

“Dr. Turpen stepped up during a time of change and provided terrific, student-focused leadership,” Seidel says. “We’re grateful for his thoughtful and steady service and commitment.”
