The City of Laramie and the University of Wyoming’s Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office are collaborating on new volunteer opportunities across the community.
In early 2024, the Laramie City Council identified the creation of a municipal volunteer program app as a top objective to make volunteerism easier for local residents. Through dedicated efforts, the city launched its volunteer website at cityoflaramie.org/1423/Laramie-Volunteer-Program.
“The Laramie City Council expressed their desire to establish a volunteer program and app as a means of boosting volunteerism in our community in a more convenient way,” says Brannen Moan, management analyst. “The city has worked to bring in new volunteers and help foster a sense of community pride through this program, and this new step in our partnership with the UW SLCE office will empower both of our organizations to engage UW students, staff and faculty in our community. We are grateful for the SLCE office’s openness to this partnership and look forward to working with them to cultivate a culture of service and stewardship here in Laradise.”
Thanks to a new link between the City of Laramie’s volunteer website and UW’s Volunteer Hub, volunteer opportunities with city programs will be displayed alongside volunteer opportunities from 26 local nonprofit organizations on the university’s website.
By visiting Volunteer Hub, people in Albany County can seamlessly connect with local organizations and municipal programs, learn more about volunteer opportunities and create a record of their community service. With the new link, both the City of Laramie and UW’s SLCE office are looking forward to increasing community connections through volunteerism, says Shelby Kennedy, UW SLCE project coordinator.
“We are excited to work with the City of Laramie to get more people involved in serving our community,” she says. “The vision behind creating Volunteer Hub in 2020 was to increase volunteerism by elevating a centralized point of information that could benefit the whole community. This partnership is a huge step toward this vision.”
Volunteer Hub is a website that brings together Laramie-area nonprofits and Albany County residents. Through the website, users can browse a list of Laramie-area organizations; reply to active volunteer opportunities; and create a record of their volunteer hours and activities, Kennedy adds.
