Sheridan High School (SHS) has earned national recognition as the top-scoring Unit One team in the 2025 “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution” national finals.

Out of 48 teams from across the country competing in April in Washington, D.C., SHS took top honors in the category focusing on the philosophical and historical foundations of the American political system.

The state competition for “We The People” is administered by the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center (AHC) and hosted at the Wyoming State Capitol.

The SHS Unit One team -- composed of juniors Lincoln Robbins, Nicholas Matheney and Rachel Keegan -- scored an impressive 287 out of 300 points. This marks the second time SHS has received a unit award in the prestigious competition, the first having come under former SHS teacher Tyson Emborg.

Unit awards are presented to the highest-scoring teams in each of the six content areas evaluated during the first two days of the national competition. SHS finished 24th overall out of 48 national teams. All teams were given the same set of questions. The teams each provide a four-minute prepared opening testimony and then must answer six minutes of follow-up questioning from a panel of constitutional scholars from across the country.
