Artists to Present Cyanotype Workshop July 26 at UW Art Museum

Artists Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese will visit the University of Wyoming Art Museum and host a workshop on cyanotype making Saturday, July 26.

The museum will host a public reception in celebration of the artists’ two exhibitions, “Vanishing Finish” and “Borrowed Time,” currently on display in the museum’s Lobby and Rotunda galleries.

The 2-4 p.m. workshop by Ligorano and Reese, known collectively as LigoranoReese, will teach their techniques for making cyanotypes, an early photographic process that uses light-sensitive emulsion and sunlight to create images in distinctive blue tones. The workshop, “Blue Magic,” will provide participants with an opportunity to learn directly from the artists about the process used to create the cyanotypes for “Vanishing Finish,” an installation of 49 images of endangered keystone species.

Workshop participants will leave with their completed artworks and the skills to make cyanotypes on their own. This workshop is free but capacity-limited. Registration is required and can be done by going here.

Following the workshop, from 4-6 p.m., the Art Museum will host a free reception in celebration of LigoranoReese and their two exhibitions, Vanishing Finish,” in the Lobby Gallery, and “Borrowed Time,” in the Rotunda Gallery. This event is free and open to the public. A cash bar and appetizers will be provided.

“Borrowed Time” features six lenticular clocks that correspond to the six North American time zones. Each clock displays a before-and-after image of a natural disaster that changes as the viewer moves past the object. It’s part of the museum’s exhibition “Sympoiesis: Co-Creating Sense of Place.”

The UW Art Museum exhibits, preserves and interprets visual culture from around the world to engage academic, local, state, national and global communities. The museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 E. Willett Drive in Laramie. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday hours are extended to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
