The University of Wyoming College of Education, in partnership with the Wyoming School Boards Association and the UW College of Law, will host the Law and Leadership Conference Thursday-Friday, Aug. 7-8, at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center in Laramie.
The two-day event offers a platform for education professionals to explore pressing legal and leadership issues shaping K-12 public education today.
“The Law and Leadership Conference provides a platform for professionals in the education sector to gain in-depth knowledge and discuss critical legal and leadership challenges facing public education today,” says Brian Farmer, executive director of the Wyoming School Boards Association.
The conference builds on a long-standing tradition that began with summer seminars hosted by UW education leadership professors Maurice Wear and Myron Bason. These sessions invited program graduates, primarily Wyoming superintendents, back to campus for professional development and school law updates. In 2015, the Wyoming School Boards Association revived the model and launched the Summer Law Conference. Since then, the event has returned in 2019, 2021 and 2023 through a collaboration with the UW College of Education and College of Law.
The 2025 conference is open to education professionals statewide, particularly school board members, superintendents, principals and other school leaders.
Conference highlights include:
-- Legal updates on recent court rulings and legislative changes.
-- Practical strategies for addressing complex challenges in public schools.
-- Exploration of key trends, such as school choice and parental involvement.
-- A hands-on mock trial session.
-- Networking opportunities with education leaders and attorneys.
Registration is $225 per participant and includes meals, all materials and a reception.
