The University of Wyoming has opened its Science Initiative STEM Sandbox, a new innovative space dedicated to bolstering community engagement, education and outreach related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The STEM Sandbox already has hosted 93 individual meetings and events, tallying 197 hours of STEM outreach activity both within UW and throughout the wider community. These initiatives have had significant reach, impacting 1,185 Wyoming students and 459 adults including K-12 teachers, chaperones and members of the public.

Notably, the STEM Sandbox recently served as the heart of the inaugural STEM-ology event series in the spring. These hands-on, themed gatherings spanned age groups from toddlers to seniors and are embedded in UW’s commitment to creatively engaging the community in STEM learning.

Located in Room 4003 on the fourth floor of UW’s Science Initiative Building, the STEM Sandbox is for outreach, teaching and STEM engagement. It offers flexible, interactive space that is designed to serve both university-affiliated groups and external community partners -- making a perfect space for both campus-based STEM events and programs preparing UW participants to engage with statewide schools and organizations.

Anyone interested in conducting a STEM-related event, meeting or group activity that promotes community engagement can request to use the facility by filling out the request form at https://forms.office.com/r/UyY5wH9A7E. At least one week’s notice is desired, and you’ll receive confirmation within 48 hours of submitting your request.
