The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees will engage a search firm and appoint a diverse committee to assist in the selection of a new UW president to succeed President Ed Seidel, who will step down after his contract ends in summer 2026.

During a regularly scheduled board meeting today (Wednesday), trustees noted they are soliciting interest and fielding inquiries from a number of potential search firms. And they have plans to appoint a single, broad-based search committee that will include representation from the board; UW faculty, staff, students and administrators; business leaders; community members; and alumni. The search committee is expected to be determined at the board’s September meeting.

“Hiring the university’s next president is of utmost importance to the board,” says Kermit Brown, chairman of the Board of Trustees. “We are developing a process to attract a pool of candidates of the highest quality possible -- and involve UW’s key constituencies in reviewing the candidates and making recommendations to the board.”

From the candidate pool vetted and assembled by the search firm, the committee will be expected to identify the top dozen or so candidates, likely in January; conduct Zoom interviews with those individuals; and recommend the top six or so candidates for in-person interviews by the trustees. Following those interviews, trustees will select three candidates for further interviews, on-campus meetings and public presentations, likely in March or April. A vote of the full board will name UW’s next president.

In coming weeks, the board will conduct multiple on-campus listening sessions -- also accessible electronically -- to solicit input concerning what UW needs in its next president.
