Nicholas “Nicho” Lowry, president of Swann Auction Galleries and resident poster expert
on PBS’s “Antiques Roadshow,” will present a public lecture at the University of Wyoming
Monday, Sept. 29, at 5:30 p.m. in the Business Building’s Scarlett Auditorium.
His talk is titled “World War I Posters: The Propaganda of War in the Pre-Internet
Era.”
“Nicho and I went to high school together, but I had no idea of what he did for a
living until I turned on one of my favorite shows and saw him on TV,” says Stephanie
Anderson, a professor in UW’s School of Politics, Public Affairs and International
Studies. “At our high school reunion, I immediately invited him out to share his expertise
with our community. His talk fits perfectly with the school’s interdisciplinary mission
to explain international and political events from different perspectives. It will
be a pleasure to show him around Laramie, too.”
Recognized internationally as a leading authority on vintage posters, Lowry is celebrated
for his engaging storytelling and expertise.
His lecture will explore the visual strategies, messages and impact of World War I
posters.
This event is sponsored by the UW School of Politics, Public Affairs and International
Studies; the Department of American Cultural Studies; the Honors College; and the
Department of History. It is free and open to the public.
