flyer about the opening speaker at the AHC wilderness exhibitThe University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center (AHC) invites the public to an opening event for its newest exhibition, “Armed in the Wilderness: An Exhibit About Outdoor Recreation, Conservation, and the Women and Men Who Built the Literary Genre.”

The opening event is Monday, Sept. 15, with light refreshments starting at 5:15 p.m. and a speaker presentation at 5:30 p.m. in Toppan Rare Books Library and Stock Growers Room.

The evening will feature guest speaker Conrad Froehlich, recently retired director of the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum in Chanute, Kan. Froehlich dedicated 36 years to leading the museum in Osa Johnson’s hometown and now continues his work as a volunteer researcher and writer. He is preparing a book on Osa and Martin Johnson, the famed explorers and filmmakers who documented African and South Seas wildlife in the early 20th century.

The exhibition, on display in the Toppan Rare Books Library room at the AHC through February, draws from the UW Toppan Rare Books Library’s extensive collection of outdoor recreation literature.
