UW College of Law Business Planning Practicum Helps Launch Wyoming Ventures
Published September 16, 2025
The University of Wyoming College of Law’s business planning practicum -- formerly the entrepreneurship and business law practicum -- has supported several dozen clients in starting businesses and nonprofits, pairing Wyoming founders with supervised law-student teams for practical, real-world legal help. The program began in 2019 to give students hands-on experience while serving the state’s entrepreneurial community.
Under the direction of Professor George Mocsary, the practicum guides students through the transactional practice of law and delivers legal services that early-stage ventures commonly need -- entity formation, legal filings and counseling on other transactional matters.
Housed in the College of Law, the practicum collaborates closely with IMPACT 307, UW’s Technology Transfer and Research Products Center, the Wyoming Small Business Development Center and other entities, creating a clear path for innovators who need accessible legal support as they move from idea to launch.
“This growth is good for Wyoming,” Mocsary says. “Each new company or nonprofit that opens its doors here contributes to local jobs, diversifies the economy and keeps homegrown talent in the state -- while training the next generation of business-savvy attorneys who will serve communities across the state.”
If you’re exploring a new venture or formalizing a nonprofit and think you could benefit from these services, learn more on the practicum’s webpage or email buslaw@uwyo.edu. The team will follow up to see whether your project is a fit.
