The University of Wyoming’s Landscape Discussion on Energy Law and Policy in the Rockies Conference is returning for an in-person forum Thursday, Oct. 16.

Now held every other year, the forum focuses on timely energy-related legal, regulatory and policy issues relevant to Wyoming and the region. The conference is hosted by UW’s School of Energy Resources (SER) and the Gina Guy Center for Land and Water in the UW College of Law, as well as the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources.

The conference kicks off at 8 a.m., both in person at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center and online. Registration is $50 for in-person attendance or $25 for the virtual-only option. The event is free for UW students, faculty and staff. Online attendees will receive a link via email the day before the event.

Continuing education credits are available for this event, including continuing legal education credits for both Wyoming and Colorado, as well as credits through the American Association of Professional Landmen.

To register for the conference, view the full schedule or learn more about the speakers, visit the conference webpage. A limited number of on-site registrations also will be available starting at 7 a.m. the day of the event.

“Energy regulatory policy is changing at both the federal and state levels,” says Temple Stoellinger, an associate professor in the Haub School and a Wyoming Excellence Chair. “This conference offers anyone interested in energy law and policy the opportunity to learn about current developments and gain valuable insights.”

Stoellinger, who also co-directs the Gina Guy Center for Land and Water, emphasizes the importance of the event in fostering dialogue and collaboration on the complex issues facing the energy sector.

“The topics we’re covering this year are especially timely given the ongoing changes and emerging opportunities in energy policy,” Stoellinger says.

The conference will bring in energy experts from across the nation to discuss important issues across the spectrum of energy topics in Wyoming. Featured topics will include oil and gas and mining law updates, as well as panel discussions on nuclear spent fuel issues, emerging energy opportunities and federal permitting reforms.

Former Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal will provide the Gina Guy Keynote on Governmental Service address.

“We are delighted to have Gov. Freudenthal returning to deliver our Gina Guy Keynote address on Governmental Service,” Stoellinger says. “He was instrumental in helping us launch this forum back in 2013, having served as conference emcee for many years, and we look forward to hearing his perspectives on leadership and public service.”

For those unable to attend, the event will be recorded, and presentations will be posted on the SER YouTube Channel at the conclusion of the conference. However, continuing legal education credits are not available for the self-study format.

Sponsorship opportunities also are available for the conference. For more information, email Christine Reed, SER outreach director, at christine.reed@uwyo.edu.
