Bass Trombonist to Perform at UW Oct. 10

The University of Wyoming Department of Music will host a free, public recital featuring acclaimed bass trombonist Minhwan Lee Friday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

Lee will be joined by Colorado State University faculty member Jooyeon Chang on piano for a program of virtuosic music featuring works by Ernst Sachse, Alexander Lebedev, Ricardo Molla, Steven Verhelst and Stephen Bulla.

Lee is a highly decorated musician and educator from Seoul, South Korea. As a Conn-Selmer performing artist, he has won numerous awards, including the 2014 Slider Asia Bass Trombone Competition and the 2013 American Trombone Workshop Solo Competition. Lee previously performed with the Macao Orchestra and the New World Symphony Orchestra and has played as a guest with numerous prestigious orchestras, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Lee holds a diploma from Boston University and a Bachelor of Music from the Korean National University of Arts, where he now teaches.

Collaborative pianist Chang has performed across North America, Europe and Asia. Known for her versatility and artistry, Chang collaborates with a wide range of soloists and ensembles, including artists such as tuba virtuosos Øystein Baadsvik and Roland Szentpali, euphonium legend Steven Mead, as well as clarinetist Mark Nuccio and horn player Katy Woolley. Chang also has performed at major international festivals, including the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival and ClarinetFest. Chang also holds an instructor position at Colorado State University and serves as an administrator and performer at the Colorado Kodály Institute.
