University of Wyoming choirs will host Western Bass, the third annual tenor-bass choral event, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts. A free, public culminating concert is Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts concert hall.

The concert will feature the UW Singing Statesmen and Happy Jacks, along with over 140 singers from Wyoming and the region, for a celebration of tenor/bass singing.

The Happy Jacks will open the concert with “Ragtime Cowboy Joe” by Muir and Abrahams; “Someone Like You” by Bricusse and Wildhorn; “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” John and Rice, with Jeffrey Cuevas, soloist; and “Don’t Stop the Music,” with Catcher Pannell, soloist.

Following will be choirs from area schools. The Laramie Middle School Bass Choir, with Kathryn Harding as conductor and Loree Cox on piano, will perform “Hi-Up for Barbary” by Dave and Jean Perry. The Cheyenne East High School choir, directed by LaDonna Backman, will perform “Tee Idle Dum Dum” by the Barbershop Harmony Society. The Laramie High School Andante Bass Choir, with Beth Kean as conductor and Loree Cox on piano, will perform “The Wellerman,” an Australian sea shanty.

UW’s Singing Statesmen, with Brian Murray as conductor and Luciano Filizola on piano, will perform “Think on Me” by Victor Johnson; “Abide with Me” by Reginal Wright; and “The Quest Unending” by Joseph Martin.

The concert will close with the combined choirs, with Murray as conductor and Filizola on piano, performing “Pete, Pete” by Victor Johnson.
