It is that time of the season when the nationally recognized University of Wyoming
Nordic ski team organizes and sponsors the annual Outdoor Gear Swap.
The gear swap will take place Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Laramie Railroad Depot, with
an 11 a.m. early-bird admission of $10. The rest of the swap, with free admission,
will be from noon-1 p.m. The event is open to the public.
The Outdoor Gear Swap is a community event to recycle outdoor equipment and get gear
into the hands of people who want it, says Christi Boggs, co-head coach of the UW
Nordic ski team.
“We also have a variety of gear well beyond skis. Last year, we had snowboards, bikes
and even a kayak,” Boggs says. “We are excited because the gear swap fits with our
environmental focus for fundraising. People can bring gear that they no longer use
and, maybe instead of buying all new gear, they can just ‘reuse’ by finding what they
need. It is great for the seller, buyer and the environment.”
For people purchasing items, Venmo, PayPal, card, cash or checks (with valid ID) are
the only forms of payment. The UW Nordic ski program will keep a 25 percent commission
on all sold items, and donations will be accepted, Boggs says.
Boggs says people interested in selling equipment should preregister items to be sold
by going to the gear swap page at www.uwyonordic.com/gear-swap.html. Sellers must come prepared to tag, price and fill out receipts for all of the items
they submit during check-in times only.
Gear check-in is Friday, Oct. 31, from 4-7 p.m. at the Laramie Railroad Depot. Sellers
must pick up unsold gear Saturday after the swap between 2-3 p.m. Any unsold items
not retrieved after 3 p.m. will be donated, Boggs says.
All information about the event, including items that will not be accepted during
the gear swap, can be found at www.uwyonordic.com/gear-swap.html.
