The University of Wyoming invites faculty, staff, visiting scholars and graduate students
to participate in a hands-on workshop facilitated by Bobur Sobirov beginning Monday,
Oct. 27.
Titled “Journal Publishing and Management -- From Idea to International Indexing,”
this hybrid-format workshop is designed for emerging academics and research professionals
who are ready to take their publishing ambitions to the next level.
Registration is open until Monday, Oct. 20, at https://forms.gle/MzEdf9PnJUtNeMeW6.
Sobirov is an associate professor of tourism business and economics and a current
visiting scholar at UW under the Faculty Enrichment Program of the American Councils
for International Education. He has extensive international experience in academic
publishing, research collaboration and journal management.
Sobirov’s dynamic experience in launching and managing scholarly journals across diverse
academic networks makes this workshop an exceptional opportunity for participants
to gain both technical skills and global insights, organizers say.
Open to faculty, staff, visiting scholars and graduate students across all disciplines,
the workshop will follow a hybrid format, with weekly Zoom sessions and optional in-person
consultations on the UW campus. The workshop will run 3-5 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3,
10 and 17, with optional follow-up consultations Nov. 24. Weeks one to three will
consist of group-based training, with participants grouped by research background;
weeks four to six will be guided self-study with assignments and resources.
Participants will learn to use Open Journal Systems (OJS), register an ISSN and develop
journal identity; design editorial policies and manage peer review; establish editorial
boards and journal workflows; and develop strategies for indexing and global promotion.
Modules include: Introduction to academic publishing; journal setup on OJS; SSN registration
and journal identity; editorial policies and peer review; editorial board formation
and management; manuscript templates and workflow design; and indexing and promotion.
By the end of the workshop, each group will have successfully launched its own academic
journal, with a clearly defined scope, editorial structure and actionable indexing
strategy.
