Small-business owners, entrepreneurs and startups will have the opportunity to receive an introduction to patents Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Mary Fuller, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) regional director, will lead a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network webinar titled “An Introduction to Patents and Business Considerations” from noon-1 p.m. To register, go here.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The webinar will cover the different types of patents; the application process; what to do after a patent is granted or not granted; the rights of patent owners; and other business considerations.

Fuller is the regional director of the USPTO’s Western Regional Outreach Office and interim director of the Rocky Mountain Regional Outreach Office. In both roles, Fuller carries out the strategic direction of the under secretary of commerce for intellectual property and the director of the USPTO. Fuller ensures the USPTO’s initiatives and programs are tailored to each region’s unique ecosystem of industries and stakeholders.
