This year’s award winners have been chosen for their work advancing UW’s global partnerships, supporting international student and faculty engagement and fostering cross-cultural education.
Staff Award
Christy Oliver, an associate director in UW’s Office of Admissions, is honored with the Staff Award for the lasting impact her dedication to fostering global engagement at UW has had on the institution, students and community. Oliver’s contributions to UW include spearheading admissions work with our international student recruiting partner Shorelight, improving immigration document procedures and enhancing the overall international student admission experience. Her work plays a vital role in enhancing UW’s global connections and fostering high-quality student enrollment.
Maria Almendares of the International Students and Scholars Office nominated Oliver
with support from Shelley Dodd, interim vice provost for enrollment management.
Faculty Campus Impact Award
Thomas Foulke, a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, received the Faculty Campus Impact Award for decades of excellence and leadership in global engagement for students, faculty and the broader UW community. Foulke’s work includes fostering student cross-cultural exchanges and developing global research.
Foulke supports the Ēcole Supérieure D’Angers summer program -- UW’s longest-running
international program -- with the implementation of study-abroad preparation courses
and global seminars.
Benjamin Rashford, head of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, nominated Foulke with support from UW student Elisabeth Dooley and Stuart Mounter of the University of New England in Australia.
Faculty Research Award
Brandon Gellis, a faculty member in the Department of Visual Arts, received the Faculty Research Award for his work supporting scholars in identifying and working to resolve civil injustice on a global scale at Tel Aviv University and Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art in Israel. Gellis’ global research collaborations, partnership development and initiatives to bring his students international experience and perspectives led to his recognition.
A group of faculty members nominated Gellis with support from Doug Russell, head of
the Department of Visual Arts, and Anat Lapidot-Firilla of the Fulbright Commission
in Israel.
