A University of Wyoming-produced video detailing the university’s commitment to free
expression and civil discourse has been recognized nationally.
The “Our Freedoms” video received a Gold Award in the Education Digital Marketing Awards for special
videos over two minutes in length. The Education Digital Marketing Awards recognize the nation’s best educational websites, digital content, electronic communications,
mobile media and social media.
The video was created by UW Institutional Marketing video producer Ali Grossman, who
handled filming and editing, while the script was written by Martha McCaughey, a special
assistant to President Ed Seidel who heads UW’s Free Expression, Intellectual Freedom
and Constructive Dialogue Initiative.
“Our Freedoms” introduces key concepts outlined in the Statement of University of
Wyoming Principles: free expression, academic and intellectual freedoms, and institutional
neutrality. Seidel appears in the video, along with several UW students. It is shown
to all new UW students during the Saddle Up onboarding program, and it appears on
the Free Expression, Intellectual Freedom and Constructive Dialogue Initiative website.
Criteria for the Educational Digital Marketing Awards include creativity, marketing execution, message impact, technology application and innovative content.
