The University of Wyoming Jazz Studies program presents a powerhouse evening of jazz featuring critically acclaimed trumpeter and composer Jared Hall alongside the high-energy Live Edge Trio.

The concert will take place Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall and is free and open to the public.

Hailed by Earshot Jazz as a “fiercely expressive soloist,” Hall is a master of blending post-bop tradition with modern harmonic storytelling. A winner of the National Trumpet Competition’s Jazz Division, Hall has graced prestigious stages ranging from Carnegie Hall to the Bellevue Jazz Festival. His career is marked by collaborations with legends such as Maria Schneider, George Benson and Terence Blanchard. JazzTimes describes Hall’s sound as “fiery and fluid ... steeped in tradition but pushing forward.”

Joining Hall is the Live Edge Trio, a faculty-led ensemble featuring Ben Markley (piano), Seth Lewis (bass) and Andy Wheelock (drums). Live Edge Trio writes and arranges music that reflects and builds upon the rich history of the jazz piano trio. Each member offers a unique and distinct musical perspective, which comes together as “hard-swinging, harmonically rich and infectiously groovy tunes.”

Beyond the stage, Hall serves as the artistic director of the Leavenworth Jazz Association and is the co-author of the influential resource “The Piano Grip System.”
