University of Wyoming Libraries has launched a newly redesigned research librarian program to provide tailored, discipline-specific research support for students, faculty and staff across campus.

The program groups UW’s research librarians into subject-specific teams aligned with colleges and academic disciplines. This enables librarians to collaborate closely with departments, supporting every stage of the research process, from formulating research questions and finding scholarly sources to research data management, digital humanities and more.

“Research today is increasingly interdisciplinary and complex,” says Sammy Peter, chair of Research and Outreach Services. “This program ensures that students and faculty have direct access to librarians with subject expertise who understand the research needs of their disciplines.”

Research librarians support academic programs and research in the following subject areas:

-- Agriculture and natural resources, including veterinary science, agriculture, environmental science, ecology, botany and biology.

-- Business, including accounting, economics, finance, hospitality management, real estate and related fields.

-- Engineering and math and sciences, including the School of Computing, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geology, chemistry, computer science, software development, programming and geographic information systems.

-- Fine and performing arts, including dance, theatre, music, art history, art design and studio art.

-- Health sciences, including pharmacy, nursing, dental hygiene, the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) Medical Education Program, social work, disability studies and communication disorders.

-- Humanities, communication and languages, including English, public speaking, communications, American studies, Native American studies, history, classics, languages, philosophy and religious studies.

-- Social sciences, including education, international studies, political science, sociology, criminal justice, psychology and anthropology.
