UW’s Malcolm Wallop Civic Engagement Launches Wyoming Museums Project
Published January 22, 2026
The University of Wyoming Malcolm Wallop Civic Engagement Program has launched the
Wyoming Museums Project, a set of modules in its WyoLearn catalog that provides information
on local museums found across Wyoming.
This catalog was created to provide more resources to social studies and English language
arts teachers who want to build local historical and cultural content and resources into their classes. In this new project
-- the Wyoming Museums Project -- the Wallop team created modules in WyoLearn that
highlight the mission, goals and resources available at Wyoming’s museums and cultural
resources. The catalog is free to all teachers and the public in UW’s WyoLearn catalog at https://civic.catalog.instructure.com/.
The Wyoming Museums Project catalog hosts resources for educators to easily access
basic information about their local museums, including hours of operation, location,
website and educational resources offered. The catalog’s 50-plus museums are organized
by county to allow teachers, parents and students to easily find museums near them.
“As we mark America’s 250 Celebration in 2026, we want to help connect teachers, parents
and students to the many terrific resources available here in our own backyard. From
UW’s American Heritage Center and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, to
smaller county museums that provide important historical and cultural resources specific
to their region or a particular topic, there’s a lot to offer,” says Jean Garrison,
director of the Wallop Civic Engagement Program and the Clyde E. and Jerrine N. Stewart
Family Professor in Public Service. “I’d like to thank the many donors who support
the Wallop Program and the UW students who did the hard work to make this new catalog
resource available in 2026.”
The Wallop Wyoming Museums Project is an ongoing project that can continue to grow
and add resources. If there are additional museums or resources that should be included
in the catalog, email the Wallop Program at wallop@uwyo.edu.
