David Wong

The David Wong Trio -- featuring Wong on bass, guitarist Jacob Artved and drummer Kush Abadey -- will perform Friday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming’s Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

The concert, presented by the UW Jazz Studies Program, is free and open to the public.

The program will include an evening of timeless jazz compositions and selections from the “Great American Songbook,” with arrangements specially crafted for this trio, highlighting each musician’s individual voice while emphasizing the group’s deep musical rapport as an ensemble.

Wong is one of the most sought-after bassists in New York City. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Wong was a longtime member of Roy Haynes’ “Fountain of Youth” band and the Heath Brothers Quartet. Currently, he performs with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and has recorded on Samara Joy’s Grammy-winning projects.

Hailing from Denmark, Artved is a rising star who moved to New York to immerse himself in the jazz scene. He has performed and recorded with legends such as Louis Hayes and Billy Hart. Known for his sublime tone and technical skill, he has released several albums as a leader, including the acclaimed “Metamorphosis.”

Drummer Abadey’s career began when, at age 16, he joined Wallace Roney’s quintet. A Berklee College of Music presidential scholar, he has performed at the White House for Michelle Obama and toured with jazz giants such as Wynton Marsalis, Chris Potter and Ravi Coltrane.
