graphic logoThe University of Wyoming’s Ruckelshaus Institute has opened registration for the 2026 Emerging Issue Forum that will address the full fuel cycle of nuclear energy. The forum is convened in partnership with the UW School of Energy Resources and the Wyoming Energy Authority.

The forum will take place Monday and Tuesday, April 13-14, at UW’s Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, located at 222 S. 22nd St. in Laramie. The aim of the event is to build a shared understanding of the benefits and risks of each part of the nuclear energy fuel cycle, and to consider under what conditions these kinds of projects might be right for Wyoming’s communities.

Registration is available at the forum website. The deadline to register is Friday, March 13.

“We want to equip people with tools and knowledge they can use to make informed decisions about nuclear industries in the state and their communities” says Ruckelshaus Institute Emerging Issues Initiative Coordinator Birch Malotky.

Day one of the forum will include an overview of the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium mining to spent fuel storage. Panels and presentations will work to address benefits, safety concerns, the regulatory framework and what opportunities look like in Wyoming.

Day two of the forum will primarily be small-group, workshop-style discussions on key issues such as workforce development and community engagement.

The Ruckelshaus Institute is seeking sponsors to support this timely and relevant conversation.

For more information about sponsorship levels and benefits, or to become a sponsor, email Malotky at bmalotky@uwyo.edu or visit the forum website at https://www.uwyo.edu/haub/ruckelshaus-institute/forums/nuclear-energy.html.
