Trio Sonoro

Trio Sonoro will perform a free, public recital, presented by the University of Wyoming Department of Music, Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

Featuring cellists Beth Vanderborgh, Stephanie Flores Guerrero and Leslie Jones, the ensemble will be joined by harpsichordist Soyeon Kang and UW graduate cellist Kiara Sheffield. The program will span from baroque masterpieces to spirited contemporary tango, with custom arrangements by Jones.

Founded at the UW Cello Festival, Trio Sonoro’s members share a passion for the infinite possibilities of cello ensemble repertoire and arrangements. They perform music from baroque to contemporary periods and arrange popular music for their ensemble.

The program includes Antonio Vivaldi’s “Double Cello Concerto” and selections from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Goldberg Variations,” alongside Luigi Boccherini’s evocative “Musica notturna delle strade di Madrid.” The second half of the evening shifts toward global and popular influences, featuring the poignant “Song of the Birds,” Gwyneth Walker’s “Journeys for Three Celli,” and a high-energy suite of tangos and Latin classics including “Por una Cabeza and El Choclo.” The concert will conclude with the iconic “Zorba’s Dance.”
