Small businesses, entrepreneurs and startups will have an opportunity to learn how to secure historically underutilized business zone (HUBZone) certifications to be able to compete for federal contracts Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The Wyoming APEX Accelerator will sponsor “From Rural to Ready: Understanding HUBZone Certification,” a webinar scheduled noon-1 p.m. To register, go here.

Wyoming APEX Accelerator, part of the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network housed at the University of Wyoming, is the state’s expert in government contracting assistance.

During the webinar, Tierra Price and Drew James will break down the complexities of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) HUBZone program and how businesses can leverage this certification to gain an edge in competition for federal contracts. The federal government aims to award 3 percent of all prime contracting dollars to HUBZone-certified businesses.

The webinar will cover how to access set-aside contracts, sole-source awards and increased marketplace visibility; clarify the 2026 residency and ownership requirements; how to verify whether your principal office and employees are in qualifying zones; and step-by-step guidance on using www.certify.sba.gov and gathering the right documentation.

Price is a procurement specialist for Wyoming APEX Accelerator.

James is a business development specialist for the Wyoming district office of the U.S. SBA.
