The Firearms Research Center in the University of Wyoming College of Law will hold an online informational session Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m. MDT for educators to learn about its national civics education program regarding the Second Amendment.

“Armed with Knowledge: A Non-Partisan Second Amendment Initiative” is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to provide educators with historical resources and scholarly perspectives to support informed classroom discussions about the Second Amendment.

The information session is free and open to all educators and anyone interested in the effort. Attendees can RSVP for the virtual informational session here.

The online discussion will be hosted by Firearms Research Center Executive Director Ashley Hlebinsky, Director George Mocsary and “Armed with Knowledge” Advisory Committee Member Jody Madeira. They will introduce the goals and structure of the program, including the development of educational videos, online resources and the timeline for the initiative’s future content.

“Educators are often asked to teach complex constitutional issues with limited resources and few opportunities for balanced scholarly engagement,” Hlebinsky says. “This session will introduce the ‘Armed with Knowledge’ initiative, the resources it will provide to educators and the topics that will be explored throughout the program, as well as answer any questions people may have.”
