The University of Wyoming Opera Theatre will present a semi-staged production of Johann
Strauss II’s comic operetta “Die Fledermaus” Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, at
7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
The performance, a celebration of music and wit, is free and open to the public.
Marking the program’s first such production in over a decade, “Die Fledermaus” features
the combined talents of two principal casts as well as members of the Laramie Civic
Chorus. Magdalena Wór serves as stage director, joined by pianist Gyejun Baek and
chorusmaster O’Neil Jones.
“Die Fledermaus” (The Revenge of the Bat) is a masterpiece of the golden age of Viennese
operetta. Renowned for its famous melodies, playful misunderstandings and eccentric
characters, the story follows a series of comedic deceptions at a lavish masquerade
ball. From Gabriel Eisenstein’s misguided schemes to the spirited antics of his maid,
Adele, the production offers a memorable evening of beautiful music and lively humor.
The Friday cast features Joseph Gilbar, Dakota Hansen and Olivia Satterthwaite. Saturday’s
performance features Jeffrey Cuevas, Kathryn Harding and Rhiannon Kilduff.
