The afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 27, between 2-3 p.m., community members may notice a noise coming from the direction of War Memorial Stadium.

Unfortunately, the distinct boom won’t be marking a touchdown by the Cowboys during a surprise football game. The noise also won’t be the result of some unexplainable event.

Instead, the University of Wyoming ROTC Cowboy Battalion cadets will be firing a test round from the M116 75mm Pack Howitzer that’s shot off when the Cowboys score during football weekends.
