UW Transportation Services Makes Changes for 2026-27 Academic Year

University of Wyoming Transportation Services will implement several transit service changes for the 2026-27 academic year in response to a significant reduction in federal transit funding.
Over the summer, the Wyoming Department of Transportation announced federal funding reductions affecting many transit agencies across the state. UW Transportation Services experienced a 37 percent reduction in federal funding for fiscal year 2027, representing about a $800,000 decrease from previous-year funding levels.
As Transportation Services adjusts operations to a reduced funding level, the first phase of service changes will focus primarily on SafeRide and evening transportation services.
The previous fixed-route Evening Route, which operated from 6:30-10:30 p.m. on weekdays, has transitioned to SafeRide, UW’s on-call van transit service. SafeRide will continue to provide evening transportation within Laramie city limits under the following schedule:
Weekdays
-- Mondays-Wednesdays: 6:30 p.m.-midnight.
-- Thursdays-Fridays: 6:30 p.m.-2 a.m.
SafeRide daytime service hours will be reduced on weekends. Weekend service will operate on the following schedule:
Weekends
-- Saturdays: noon-6 p.m. and 10 p.m.-2 a.m.
-- Sundays: noon-6 p.m.
SafeRide is a public transit service and is available to everyone. Rides can be scheduled using the UWYO SafeRide App or by calling (307) 766-RIDE (7433).
SafeRide is ADA accessible. Riders requiring a wheelchair lift and/or securements should notify the dispatcher when scheduling a ride.
Transportation Services also is evaluating potential changes to Link route service beginning in October as part of its response to the federal funding reduction. Additional information regarding any Link service changes will be announced at a later date.
