display case with football jersey and football memorabilia

As the Wyoming Cowboys enter the 2026 college football season, University of Wyoming Libraries is marking the program’s 133-year history with a new display, “133 Years at 7220 Feet: A Celebration of Wyoming Cowboy Football.”

The exhibit is located on Level 3 of Coe Library and features more than 100 items chronicling the history of Cowboy football. The display includes historical print materials from UW Libraries’ Special Collections alongside vintage helmets, footballs and other gear on loan from UW Athletics.

“It’s always amazed me how long Cowboy football has been part of the University of Wyoming experience,” says David Kruger, UW Special Collections librarian. “UW Libraries saw this exhibit as an opportunity to showcase some of our historic materials about the football program and to partner with UW Athletics in showcasing some of their fascinating football equipment. A few former players have even included their student-athlete memories about Coe Library.”

The display is free and open to the public and will remain on view in Coe Library through Dec. 23. Coe Library will have extended hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, for Homecoming, giving alumni and fans an opportunity to visit the exhibit during the celebration.
