Small businesses, entrepreneurs and startups can learn the next steps to take toward stronger financial management for their companies.

Steen Stovall will head a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network workshop titled “Key Financial Documents Every Business Should Know” Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Eastern Wyoming College’s Douglas Center, located at 800 S. Windriver Drive. The workshop will take place in Room 133 on the Douglas campus. To register, go here. Registration is free.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Strong financial management is the backbone of every successful small business. Whether launching a startup or managing an established company, understanding how money flows through your business is essential to making smart decisions and sustaining growth.

During the workshop, small business owners and entrepreneurs will learn the essential financial management tools -- budgeting, bookkeeping, financial statements and business financing -- used by successful businesses. The session will break down complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights.

Participants also will learn how financial statements -- such as profit and loss reports, balance sheets and cash flow statements -- guide decision-making and reveal a business’s financial health. The session also will cover funding options, including loans, lines of credit and strategies that lenders evaluate when considering financing.

Stovall is a regional director of Converse, Natrona, Niobrara and Platte counties for the Wyoming SBDC Network. He has been involved in the small business and workforce development sectors for more than 25 years. A business veteran, he has co-founded companies in the oil, gas, retail and construction industries. He also has extensive instructional experience.
