Cindy Brock, the Wyoming Excellence Chair in Literacy Education in the University
of Wyoming College of Education, will be inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame in
December.
Brock also currently serves as president of the Literacy Research Association, reflecting
her leadership and standing within the literacy education community.
Reading Hall of Fame membership recognizes widely respected leaders with at least
25 years of involvement in literacy education and significant contributions through
scholarship, professional leadership and the preparation of future literacy leaders.
Brock’s induction honors a career of sustained influence on how educators and researchers
understand and teach reading.
For Wyoming, Brock’s recognition carries special significance. UW’s future educators
have the opportunity to learn from a scholar whose contributions are recognized across
the field, says Jenna Shim, the John P. “Jack” Ellbogen Dean of the College of Education.
“As graduates bring their preparation into classrooms and communities throughout the
state, that expertise can help strengthen instruction and expand opportunities for
Wyoming students,” Shim says. “Dr. Brock’s induction also reflects the broader value
of UW’s investment in excellence: Distinguished faculty advance knowledge while preparing
students to put that knowledge to work in service to others. In literacy education,
that connection reaches children at a foundational point in their lives, when learning
to read can shape their confidence, academic progress and future opportunities.”
The Reading Hall of Fame is an independent, international organization established in 1973 to honor lifetime achievements and significant research contributions in the field of literacy and reading instruction.
