CBS News, NBC News, ABC News, WyoFile, Colorado Public Radio, Newsday, The Denver Gazette and London’s Daily Mail were among national and international media publishing articles last week related to the 25th observance of the murder of UW student Matthew Shepard, of Casper. His death has been memorialized as an egregious hate crime. NBC News, Washington Examiner and New York Daily News also published President Joe Biden’s comments. Laramie Live published UW’s release noting the annual Shepard Symposium on Social Justice.

The UW College of Education plays a significant role in shaping the future of K-12 schooling in Wyoming, according to a Casper Star-Tribune article. Jenna Shim, the John P. “Jack” Ellbogen Interim Dean of UW’s College of Education, was interviewed for the piece, which noted that UW has launched a series of initiatives that will reshape teaching and teacher development in Wyoming.

The Crypto Basic published an article featuring UW College of Law Professor George Mocsary, who hosted a fireside chat on U.S. crypto regulation with Stu Alderoty, the chief legal officer for Ripple -- a provider of leading enterprise blockchain solutions for global payments -- during the recent University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) conference. UBRI supports a diverse portfolio of blockchain research, technical development and innovation at universities around the world. Ripple, a large blockchain company, is a UW partner in the blockchain space.

Wild game harvest surveys are being conducted by the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center at UW on behalf of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Oil City News reported that the survey gathers harvest information and feedback on this year’s hunting season.

Wyoming News Now noted that Paul Flesher, director of UW’s American Heritage Center, is among members of Gov. Mark Gordon’s Wyoming Semiquincentennial Planning Task Force. The task force will make recommendations on the planning of events and activities to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the U.S.

Chad Banks is among five alumni who are being recognized for their contributions to improving their communities as part of a UW College of Business display. Banks is the manager of the Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency. SweetwaterNOW noted that the director of UW’s Peter M. and Paula Green Johnson Student Success Center chooses a theme each year, with this year’s display focusing on graduates who have made an impact on Wyoming communities.

Sheridan Media published UW’s release announcing that Jeff Beck, a professor in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, is an editor and co-author of the new open access book “Rangeland Wildlife Ecology and Conservation.” The 30-chapter publication presents a collection of leading research on contemporary rangeland wildlife management.
