    UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Cowboy State Daily interviewed Jerod Merkle, UW’s Knobloch Professor of Migration Ecology and Conservation, for a story that said the outlook this winter is already looking less deadly than a year ago for Wyoming’s mule deer population. Last year’s deadly winter particularly decimated the Wyoming Range herd.

Anna Chalfoun, a UW associate professor, was interviewed by Cowboy State Daily for an article that noted that fewer arctic birds than usual have been spotted in Wyoming this winter because of the unseasonably warm weather.

Wyoming Public Radio reported that Wyoming K-12 teachers have the option to teach lessons on the incarceration of Japanese Americans in the state during World War II. A collaboration between the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation and UW’s Malcolm Wallop Civic Engagement Program will provide the necessary materials to educators.

Martha McCaughey, a UW adjunct professor who co-led the university’s Freedom of Expression, Intellectual Freedom and Constructive Dialogue Working Group, wrote a piece about the effort for the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal.

Elizabeth Minton, a UW associate professor of marketing, was featured by the legal website LawFirm.com in a post about navigating bankruptcy.

Gillette College’s Area 59 makerspace will benefit from a grant through UW and the Wyoming Innovation Partnership, according to a story in The Gillette News Record. The money will be used for new equipment.

UW Extension will offer a seminar on alkaline soil management next month in Cody. UW’s release, published by Wyo4News and Oil City News, noted that the event is designed for commercial crop producers, crop consultants, crop advisers and agriculture service field personnel.
