A segment on last week’s “Science Friday” program on National Public Radio featured UW Professor Jacob Goheen and Ph.D. student Douglas Kamaru. They discussed how their high-profile research showed that invasive ants in a Kenyan savanna have changed the ecosystem, causing lions to change their predatory behavior.

The discovery of a nearly 13,000-year-old bead at the La Prele Mammoth site by UW researchers continues to receive attention from media outlets, including Cowboy State Daily, SciTechDaily and the Douglas Budget.

A report by UW’s Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center showed that homicide deaths among Indigenous peoples in Wyoming are disproportionately high compared to white residents, according to a story in Cowboy State Daily. The report was presented to the Wyoming Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Task Force.

Wyoming News Now interviewed Dan McCoy, interim director of UW’s Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality (WORTH) Initiative, about WORTH’s new report on the economic benefits of outdoor recreation in the state.

The Casper Star-Tribune published UW President Ed Seidel’s op-ed noting the university’s efforts to capture federal funding for economic development projects.

UW Professor Kevin Monteith says it’s extremely rare for mule deer and white-tailed deer to produce hybrid offspring in Wyoming, according to a story in Cowboy State Daily. Mule deer and white-tailed deer frequently share habitat, but only very rarely interbreed.
