    UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW’s accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is rated fourth best in the Top 10 list of Forbes’ Best Online Accelerated Nursing Programs of 2024. The publication noted that UW’s program is designed for students who hold non-nursing bachelor’s degrees and want to become RNs. The distance program lets students in rural areas of Wyoming pursue a B.S.N. without relocating to Laramie.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that the Wyoming Game and Fish Department completed an aerial population survey of the renowned Wyoming Range mule deer herd that indicates the 2022-23 severe winter impacted the population more than originally thought. Data collected by UW’s Kevin Monteith, a Wyoming Excellence Chair, was among data used by the department for its report.

The Wyoming State Board of Education will continue its collaborative work with Wyoming’s Future of Learning Partnership, which includes UW among its many partners. According to information published by WyoToday Media and Sheridan Media, the partnership aims to create a more student-centered education system that is based on individual learning needs and interests and to partner with Wyoming industries to better prepare students for careers.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that a celebration of life for the three UW swimmers who died in a single-vehicle crash two weeks ago will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, inside the Arena-Auditorium.

Cowboy Clean Fuels was recently awarded $7.8 million in state funding to pursue commercial-scale development of a technology that will produce renewable natural gas and capture carbon emissions using existing coalbed methane infrastructure in Johnson County. The technology, which involves injecting feed-grade sugar beet byproducts into deep coal formations using CBM wells, was developed at the UW’s Center for Biogenic Natural Gas Research, according to a Gillette News Record article.

The UW College of Business is offering free tax preparation services to Wind River Indian Reservation tribal members and Fremont County residents as part of the Wind River Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. WyoToday Media and County 10 published UW’s release about the program that is designed to support individuals and families in need of tax preparation assistance.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release announcing that 11 UW students are funding their study-abroad experiences this spring through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program.

UW’s College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources will facilitate a seminar on energy innovations, hosted by Gillette College, later this month. The seminar is the second in UW’s 2024 Ranching in the West seminar series. Oil City News and County 17 published UW’s release.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle and County 17 published UW Extension’s release announcing that Wyoming 4-H will host a free virtual career fair March 19.
