State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., helped to secure an extension for a UW water management project to expand the network of stations that monitor snowpack and soil moisture throughout the Upper Missouri River Basin plains area. According to a United States Senate media release, the project will produce critical data to help Wyoming and surrounding states better understand how they can manage valuable resources and maximize access to water that ranchers and landowners rely on.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release noting that five undergraduate students, including a Cheyenne student, are among the latest cohort selections for the Wyoming Wildlife Fellowship Program. The Tribune Eagle also reported on the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing’s 66th annual convocation and the awards given to UW nursing students and faculty members.
The Water Resources Data System and State Climate Office, headquartered at UW, noted that the water supply outlook for producers along the North Platte River -- as it flows into Nebraska -- should be slightly above normal through early July, reported The North Platte Telegraph.
Sheridan Media interviewed Chad Baldwin, UW Institutional Communications and Marketing associate vice president, about UW’s commencement earlier this month. Baldwin also was interviewed by SVInews.com about new UW online degrees being offered.
UW administrators, faculty, staff and students were in Thermopolis recently for one of the university’s “UW in Your Community” events for presentations at the high school and for the public later in the day. The Thermopolis Independent Record covered UW’s presentation at the public gathering.
WyoToday Media published UW’s release announcing that UW Extension produced a free digital publication titled “Photo Monitoring Vegetation for Small Acreages” that helps small-acreage landowners and others make decisions about land management.
Wyoming citizens will view a stellar celestial alignment Tuesday, June 4, in the early morning hours when a rare “parade of planets” will stretch across the sky for the first time in decades. UW’s Max Gilbraith, the Harry C. Vaughn Planetarium coordinator, discussed with Cowboy State Daily how the six planets and a crescent moon will be visible right before dawn, diagonally arching in the early morning light.
UW’s Art Museum will host special events to celebrate the exhibition “Harold Garde at 100: The Unseen Works in Two Acts.” UW’s release, published by The Wyoming Tribune Eagle, notes that the exhibition features 100 never-before-exhibited works by the prolific painter and printmaker and UW alumnus.
