State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
UW economist Chuck Mason was among oil and gas market experts who were interviewed by Marketplace for an article focusing on why Canada has now become a critical supplier of crude oil to the U.S. The Marketplace broadcast portfolio is heard by more than 11.7 million listeners each week on more than 800 public radio stations nationwide.
The Casper Star-Tribune reported that the UW Board of Trustees approved adding $2 million to the supplemental budget request that will be sent to the state later this month. The additional funds are earmarked for athletics and medical school slots. The supplemental budget priorities totaled more than $23 million before the latest additions.
Stan Lee Super-Con -- a “comic con” event hosted in conjunction with the UW American Heritage Center’s (AHC) “Stan Lee: Beyond the Book” exhibition -- is scheduled Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, at the UW Conference Center. Sheridan Media published UW’s release announcing the event.
Oil City News reported that Gov. Mark Gordon will discuss the launch of the nation’s first-ever state-issued, fiat-backed stable token at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium this week in Jackson. UW’s Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation is one of the event’s sponsors.
UW’s College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources was among sponsors of the 2024 Wyoming Agriculture Hall of Fame Awards Picnic during the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas last week to recognize Wyoming’s ag leadership, according to the Wyoming Livestock Roundup.
The Platte County Record-Times published a UW Extension release noting that a field day will be held this week at the James C. Hageman Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center near Lingle. The event will be integrated with a precision agriculture exposition hosted in collaboration with Eastern Wyoming College. The Torrington Telegram published a similar story.
UW is asking for public comment on recommendations regarding student tuition for the 2025-26 academic year. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release noting that, at its September meeting, the UW Board of Trustees is expected to act on the recommendations from the university administration, and public input will help inform the trustees’ decision.
Laramie Live published UW’s release announcing that the intersection of 15th Street and Ivinson Avenue would be open for last week’s move-in day at the residence halls for freshman students participating in Saddle Up this week.
