UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release noting that TheTravel has put Laramie at the top of its list of the “10 Best College Towns in America in 2024” based on several factors, including campus offerings, vibrant downtown areas, a strong sense of community and outdoor recreation.

UW researchers published a study in the journal Environmental Science & Technology that addresses resource, environmental, economic, policy and societal issues related to low-carbon hydrogen production by steam methane reforming with carbon capture and storage in Wyoming and other natural-gas-rich states. Marcellus Drilling News published the article.

The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) included in its nationwide news roundup the fact that the UW IADC chapter recently named its new offers for the academic year.

Wyatt Olivas, a UW music major from Cheyenne, is among 20 young people from around the world who will advise the Vatican on topics related to pastoral care of young people as well as other issues, according to Florida Catholic and Northwest Catholic. The Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life selected the new members of its international youth advisory body. Olivas, featured in a UW media release, is the youngest member of the worldwide Synod of Bishops on synodality who met with Pope Francis last year.

Cointelegraph reported that Bradley Rettler, director of UW’s new Bitcoin Research Institute, was among speakers at the Bitcoin Amsterdam 2024 conference who discussed how misinformation in research and media leads to flawed bitcoin policies. Rettler was among “Beyond Resistance Money” panelists discussing the subject on day two of the conference.

UW accounting and finance Professor Ali Nejadmalayeri was featured in a WalletHub piece about the best credit cards for building credit. In the question-and-answer article, Nejadmalayeri discussed which credit card is the best credit-building tool available to consumers.

Cowboy State Daily interviewed Max Gilbraith, the UW Harry C. Vaughn Planetarium coordinator, about last week’s Comet Tsuchinshan – ATLAS (C-2023), or the green comet, that made a once-in-a-lifetime appearance that Cowboy State residents could view.

Oil City News was among media outlets publishing UW’s release noting that the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources recognized its distinguished alumni, valued partners and generous supporters at last weekend’s annual dean’s banquet.

UW’s Family Weekend, held last weekend on campus, was highlighted in a WyoToday Media article published on the Riverton radio station’s website.

The Northern Wyoming News and The Basin Republican Rustler both published UW’s media release announcing that the 19th “UW in Your Community” event will be held next week in Washakie County.

UW President Ed Seidel penned an op-ed piece that was published in The Wyoming Tribune Eagle and WyoFile titled “UW bucks negative perceptions of higher education.”

As part of its “Challenges to Democracy” lecture series, UW’s School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies will host its third lecture titled “From Paper to Pixels: The Evolution and the Future of Voting,” Tuesday, Oct. 15, on campus. The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s release.

Trade & Industry Development included the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network as a recipient of a $200,000 Federal and State Technology (FAST) grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration. FAST’s objectives are to improve outcomes for underserved communities. The Wyoming SBDC’s offices are located at UW.

Trisha Martinez, UW assistant professor of American Studies, was among local residents interviewed for a Hispanic Heritage Month article that was published in The Cheyenne Post.
