State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
The American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching have designated UW as among 187 institutions nationwide to receive R1 university status --- the highest level of American research universities. Sheridan Media published UW’s release pointing out UW is in the top tier of U.S. research universities, with just 4.8 percent of the nation’s nearly 4,000 accredited, degree-granting institutions reaching this “very high research activity” category. Higher Ed Dive mentioned UW receiving R1 designation, and it also was mentioned briefly in a Cowboy State Daily article.
Chad Baldwin, UW Institutional Communications and Marketing associate vice president, spoke with Cowboy State Daily about the university’s Super Bowl ad featuring former Cowboys standout quarterback Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. Baldwin said it was too early to know of the return on the $2 million ad investment. KGAB Radio mentioned the Allen ad. Among national media publishing the Allen video was Athlon Sports.
Cowboy State Daily was among media outlets publishing UW President Ed Seidel’s op-ed piece titled “A Testament to Wyoming’s Culture of Opportunity, Merit and Excellence” that touted former UW standout quarterback Josh Allen’s NFL MVP Award last week. But the op-ed piece also highlighted what happens when UW students -- whether in athletics or academics -- are given the chance to prove themselves based on merit.
Wyoming News Now reported that UW Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement (SLCE) Office students are among volunteers taking part in the city of Laramie’s “Snow Angels” -- a new community program that "sends a helping hand” to a home or a loved one’s home -- to help shovel snow when the resident cannot.
County 10 published UW’s release announcing that Elsa Freise, a UW student from Buffalo, the Larsh Bristol Photojournalism Fellowship recipient, will give a public presentation about her work titled “Bison Tales: Capturing Conservation and Culture” this week at Coe Library. Freise’s photos were shot on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Laramie author Phil White will discuss his latest book, “Trials and Triumphs: Black Americans at the University of Wyoming,” hosted by UW’s American Heritage Center, this week. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle and Orlando radio’s 98.5 The Wire published UW’s announcement.
Wyoming Livestock Roundup covered UW’s Ranch Management and Agricultural Leadership Program’s “Ranching in the West” seminar series earlier this month at Central Wyoming College’s Rustler Ag and Equine Complex in Riverton.
UW Extension will host a one-day conference in Cheyenne Saturday, March 8, for those interested in home gardening and small-scale food production. The Cheyenne Post published UW’s release.
This is Laramie published on its website UW’s media release noting the university’s latest Wyoming Center on Aging’s YouTube video program, “Once Again,” will be available beginning this week, offering valuable insight into communicating with loved ones living with dementia.
UW’s Department of Athletics and the WYO Sports Ranch, in Casper, will partner for special camps with Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls athletes, along with a basketball camp with former Cowgirl head coach Joe Legerski. Oil City News reported that the camps are next month.
