    UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

In the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung, research on climate change scenarios by Matt Burgess, UW Department of Economics assistant professor, and his colleague, Ashley Dancer, was covered in a piece titled “Realism in climate policy at last.” Their research paper was published in the journal Nature Climate Change at the beginning of the year.

A UW rapid-response dialogue concerning legislative matters led by Burgess was noted by Wyoming Public Media. Burgess also was quoted in an E&E News article titled “Green group looks to use its clout with Republicans.”

The Way Ahead -- written by and for young professionals in oil and gas, covering career development, along with business and technology -- reported that UW received a $500,000 pledge from Joseph and Stephanie Leimkuhler. The gift, matched by the state, will create a $1 million endowment that creates the Joseph and Stephanie Leimkuhler Fund for Student Success in Petroleum Engineering. Joseph Leimkuhler is a UW alumnus and COO of Beacon Offshore Energy.

UW students were among a group that recently visited the State Capitol and Gov. Mark Gordon as he signed a proclamation in honor of National TRIO Day, according to a UW media release published by Oil City News. Wyoming ASPIRE -- an organization that promotes access to higher education for first-generation, limited-income and disadvantaged students -- sponsored the meeting.

K2 Radio and Oil City News published UW’s release noting that UW Extension will host a one-day conference this weekend for those interested in home gardening and small-scale food production. The event is part of UW Extension’s Harvest Wyoming initiative, which provides practical resources for Wyoming residents interested in growing their own food.

UW’s finest student musicians will be chosen during the UW Symphony Orchestra’s Jacoby Competition this week in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s media announcement.

Northern Ag Network published UW’s release announcing that UW Extension’s Sheep Task Force last week began hosting a series of virtual webinars on predator management. The free public webinar series is for Wyoming sheep producers and others to virtually attend, with other programs available Tuesday, March 4, and Tuesday, March 11.
