    UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

An article published by the National Governors Association focused on how four governors are growing entrepreneurship opportunities in their respective states, including Gov. Mark Gordon’s Wyoming Innovative Partnership -- a collaboration that aligns education, workforce development and industry to help drive Wyoming’s economy. The initiative is supported by UW, the state’s community colleges, Wyoming Business Council, Department of Workforce Services and Department of Education.

Forbes profiled former UW standout linebacker Chad Muma, a fourth-year member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, for his off-field charity foundation, Muma Movement. Muma is among 13 players in NFL history known to be diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Muma was diagnosed at age 13.

James Paterson, a UW postgraduate student studying physical education, was interviewed by China Daily during a recent exchange program. Paterson was a member of the university’s delegation under the American Short-Term Study in China Initiative, an exchange program started three years ago by UW and Shanghai University of Sport.

7220 Sports published UW’s release announcing Adam Goldberg, a former UW football player and successful real estate executive, as the UW College of Business’s 63rd Distinguished Alumnus. He will be honored at the 74th annual College of Business Recognition Dinner later this month. Patch AM, an online Arvada, Colo., news outlet, also published UW’s media release.

Christian Wassana, an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes, was awarded the Chief Washakie Distinguished Leadership Student Success Award during UW’s Native American Scholarship and Awards Ceremony last week. Wassana recently worked on the television series “Yellowstone” as a director’s assistant and actor, according to County 10.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that the city of Laramie -- in partnership with UW’s Service, Leadership and Community Engagement Office -- is hosting Community Clean-Up Days from Saturday-Monday, April 19-May 5.

Jean Williams-Woodard, a UW plant sciences associate professor of practice, added comments to a Greenhouse Grower article why powdery mildew is appearing earlier in the season than expected due to erratic weather patterns. She offered tips on what growers can do to keep their crops free from the common plant disease.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle and The Sheridan Press reported that more than 545 high school students, advisers and volunteers from across the state recently gathered at UW’s College of Business for the 2025 Wyoming Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference.

Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, spoke with Sheridan Media, providing university updates, including an upcoming Outdoor Recreation Summit and a Search and Rescue Conference.

The Greybull Standard noted that UW Extension will host in Lovell an artificial insemination class for cattle next month for participants interested in expanding their cattle breeding knowledge and skills. The newspaper also reported on local students who competed at the recent History Day competition hosted by UW.

During the recent WESTI Ag Day, Washakie County Extension Educator Dan VanderPloeg discussed alfalfa variety selection and what growers should consider when planting alfalfa, according to The Wyoming Livestock Roundup.

Tri-Stock Livestock News, WyoToday Media and Sheridan Media were among media outlets publishing UW’s release noting that if Wyoming residents spent just 5 percent of their grocery budget on local foods, local food production could contribute an additional $36.3 million to the state’s gross domestic product. UW Extension published the new study.

Another recently discovered comet should be visible from Wyoming in the early morning darkness and will be easier to see every night for the next month. Cowboy State Daily interviewed Max Gilbraith, UW’s Harry C. Vaughn Planetarium coordinator, about the discovery of Comet 2025 F2 (SWAN).

Visit Laramie published a notification that the Laramie Audubon Society and students in UW’s Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Program will host Earth Day and Arbor Day activities for children Saturday, April 19.
