State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
WyoFile published an entire document that highlights the economic impact of the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Grant Program. The report from the Jay Kemmerer WORTH Institute and the Center for Business and Economic Analysis notes that the program distributed more than $20 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds -- along with an additional $3 million in local matching contributions - that spurred more than $36 million in economic activity across the state. UW’s release was published by Sheridan Media and also mentioned in a separate WyoFile piece.
UW’s release, published by MSN, focused on new research indicating that sharp-tailed grouse in south-central Wyoming are potentially a distinct subspecies -- one that has been isolated from other populations of the bird for many years. Recent UW Ph.D. graduate Jonathan Lautenbach and Professor Jeff Beck, of UW’s Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, led the study.
The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s release announcing that the city of Laramie and the university’s Service, Leadership and Community Engagement office are collaborating on new volunteer opportunities across the community. Both have developed websites where residents can find volunteer opportunities in the community.
Max Gilbraith, UW’s Harry S. Vaughn Planetarium coordinator, added comments to a Cowboy State Daily article that focused on Northern Lights photographs taken last week by a Sundance resident.
The Rocket Miner published UW’s release noting that UW’s Center for Energy Regulation and Policy Analysis published a new white paper examining the potential effects of the Bureau of Land Management’s Rock Springs Resource Management Plan on state revenues generated from energy development in Wyoming.
New programs during June will be offered at UW’s Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium, featuring movies, light shows and various music genres. The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s release on the lineup.
SVI News interviewed Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for Institutional Marketing and Communications, on cutting-edge research on Yellowstone’s volcanic activity, focusing on its rhyolitic eruptions. UW Professor Ken Sims led the study inside and near the national park.
Local residents have the opportunity to take part in Wyoming Walks, a program developed by UW Extension educators that encourages outdoor exercise while visiting the area’s fascinating state historical, geological and cultural sites. The statewide UW Extension program offers free guided walks, according to a UW release published by The Lovell Chronicle, Oil City News and Cap City News.
The Wyoming BioBlitz, an annual event hosted by UW’s Biodiversity Institute, Audubon Rockies and Wyoming State Parks, will take place at Seminoe State Park near Sinclair later this month. Carbon County Comet published UW’s media release.
