State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
UW College of Law Dean Julie Hill was quoted in a U.S. News & World Report article about why Capital One may be motivated to settle three lawsuits it has faced involving its savings accounts. A judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia still must approve the $425 million settlement that came after Capital One depositors filed a class-action lawsuit against the bank.
Advent CEO John Roberson and Grace Johnson, client engagement manager of the technology company, discussed, through a webinar, how colleges and universities are attempting to grow their student enrollments, with institutions relying more on philanthropy measures. UW and two other colleges were used as philanthropy case studies during the session, according to Tradeline.
The Riverton Ranger noted that UW Professor Tarissa Spoonhunter; Reinette Curry, director of UW’s Native American Education, Research and Cultural Center; and Ivan Posey, Wyoming state legislator, provided analysis and context for “Generation Warrior,” a documentary about young Natives facing adulthood on the Wind River Indian Reservation. A special screening of the film will be held at Central Wyoming College June 24.
A white paper from UW’s School of Energy Resources Center for Energy Regulation and Policy Analysis was cited in a Cowboy State Daily article that focused on the ongoing Bureau of Land Management Rock Springs Resource Management Plan (RPM) issue. The paper offers insights into the economic, legal, regulatory and historical dimensions of the Rock Springs RMP.
Buckrail provided an update on Mule Deer 665, using data from the Wyoming Migration Initiative, located at UW. The doe’s long journey from the Red Desert took Mule Deer 665 to her annual summer grounds near Teton Pass earlier this month.
Recently graduated UW student Sophia Destefano, a secondary education (social studies/history) major from Sheridan, was among 43 students from across the nation to receive a James Madison Fellowship from the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation in Alexandria, Va. According to Miami’s Community News, fellowships are awarded to outstanding graduate and undergraduate students committed to careers teaching about the development and history of the U.S. Constitution.
UW’s Melissa Morris, an assistant professor, author and Fulbright scholar, was recently appointed the next director of the Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research. Oil City published UW’s announcement.
The Powell Tribune published UW’s release announcing that 22 UW students, including three from the Big Horn Basin, received Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships from the U.S. Department of State for study abroad this summer or next spring. The study-abroad programs are in 12 different countries.
Max Gilbraith, UW Harry C. Vaughn Planetarium coordinator, offered comments in a Cowboy State Daily article on last week’s “strawberry” full moon, which was at its lowest point in a 37-year span from 2006 to 2043.
