UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW College of Law Dean Julie Hill, an expert on banking law, was quoted in an American Banker article about a stablecoin bill that passed the U.S. Senate last week. The bill contains a carve-out that would allow some crypto banks to bypass state rules and more easily expand nationally.

UW Professor Danny Dale, interim dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, is part of a team that produced the most detailed map yet of the Sculptor Galaxy, revealing hundreds of previously unseen celestial features in stunning color and resolution. The team’s work was featured in Science Daily and other outlets.

John Koprowski, dean of UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, was the co-author of a study that used motion-sensing cameras to show a variety of animals along and south of the U.S. border in Arizona and New Mexico. The research was highlighted in Vox, including footage of ocelots, jaguars, black bears and beavers, among many others.

The Food Bank of Wyoming will soon distribute 3,000 pounds of emmer -- an ancient variety of wheat -- thanks to a donation from UW’s Neolithic Brand Wyoming First Grains initiative and the Cent$ible Nutrition Program. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle, Oil City News, K2 Radio and other outlets covered the story.

Eight UW students spent two intensive days this spring learning about design and metalsmithing from By Western Hands (BWH) master artisans, according to The Cody Enterprise. The event occurred under a partnership between BWH and UW and included two faculty members, Professor Ashley Hope Carlisle and visiting assistant professor Alec Schweiger.

A UW study found that a slight majority of ranchers would be willing to participate in carbon market programs, according to an article in Western Livestock Journal.
