State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
UW’s only peer-reviewed scientific journal, Rocky Mountain Geology, published a paper about the discovery of a 67.5-million-year-old dinosaur buried hundreds of feet below the parking lot of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The story was big news in Denver and beyond, including coverage in the Denver Gazette, 9News, CBS News, Axios, Smithsonian and the Denver Post.
Steve Lupien, director of UW’s Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation, is quoted in a WyoFile article about the decision by Kraken to move its headquarters to Cheyenne. Kraken is a multibillion-dollar crypto company with over 2,200 employees and 15 million customers around the globe.
In a Cowboy State Daily article about changes driven by the Trump administration that favor Wyoming’s coal industry, UW economist Rob Godby offers a cautious assessment of how much coal production will benefit.
UW economist Steve Newbold has produced a report showing how much a surcharge for visitors to Yellowstone National Park would generate, according to an article in the Daily Montanan. With many national parks facing huge backlogs of deferred maintenance, the federal government is considering a new fee on foreign visitors to address some of the shortfall.
In a Daily Mail article about the proliferation of data centers in Cheyenne, UW economist Daniel Cooley notes that Wyoming has more land and available energy than other parts of the country.
UW’s Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center, along with related UW Campus Recreation programs, are featured in Campus Rec. In 2016, the center saw completion of a $31 million renovation and expansion, turning it into a state-of-the-art recreation and wellness facility.
The new Wyoming LiDAR Data Portal, recently launched by UW’s Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center, was highlighted by LiDAR News. The free portal offers statewide high-resolution digital terrain models and 2‑foot contours and was funded by a $2 million legislative appropriation.
The Cody Enterprise profiled UW graduate Caden Crooks, who has begun a four-week residency at Powell Valley Healthcare through the WWAMI Medical Education Program’s Rural Underserved Opportunities Program.
UW’s Field Day at the Powell Research and Extension Center, scheduled Thursday, July 17, received advance publicity in the Powell Tribune.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle and 7220 Sports were among the outlets that participated in a media tour of the new Wyo Sports Ranch Club and other improvements at UW’s War Memorial Stadium.
