State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Matt Burgess, a UW assistant professor of economics, was one of the authors of a paper in the journal Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, “Liberals are less willing to buy Teslas than other electric vehicles, moderated by perceptions of Elon Musk.” The article has received attention from the Guardian, the Daily Beast, Breitbart, Fast Company, CleanTechnica and other outlets.

Burgess also is quoted in a Politico article about a new U.S. Department of Energy report that argues climate scientists have overstated the risks of a warming planet while underestimating the societal benefits of burning fossil fuels. Burgess is sympathetic to some of DOE’s claims. His research on the overcitation of worst-case climate scenarios is referenced in the report, and he thinks assessments like the National Climate Assessment could do a better job of incorporating feedback from researchers outside of the mainstream.

UW researchers were among those who produced a study featured in Forbes that used diverse thermochronologic, paleomagnetic and stable isotopic data to measure how long a dike in the Columbia River Flood Basalt Province actively transported magma.

UW’s efforts on workforce development are noted in a Newcastle News Letter Journal article, picked up by the Buffalo Bulletin, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle and other outlets, about the struggles of Rare Element Resources to recruit local employees for its rare earth element operation in Weston County.

David Kopel, a senior fellow with UW’s Firearms Research Center, is quoted in a Denver Post article about Colorado’s firearms laws.
