State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming
and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
Banking law expert Julie Hill, the dean of UW’s College of Law, is quoted in a Marketplace article about why bank deposits are up when interest rates are down. Hill notes that
banks have ways to use deposits other than making loans, such as putting money in
short-term Treasury securities or expanding their operations.
Dan McCoy, the director of UW’s Jay Kemmerer WORTH Institute, is quoted in a Jackson Hole News & Guide article about the corporatization of the hospitality industry in the resort community.
McCoy notes that large hoteliers that are franchisees of big brands have access to
tools that mom-and-pop hoteliers don’t, including nationally branded reservation systems
and far-reaching marketing departments.
Another article in the News & Guide, quoting UW Professor Bryan Shuman, suggests that climate change will shorten Jackson’s
ski season, but perhaps less than other places.
Max Gilbraith, coordinator of UW’s Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium, describes the 3I/ATLAS,
a 33-billion-ton interstellar object discovered earlier this year, in a Cowboy State Daily article. Gilbraith notes that this is the third interstellar object discovered within
our solar system within the last decade. Where some see a fortunate confluence of
rare celestial sightings, Gilbraith sees a marked improvement in the tools and technology
used to study space.
Sheridan Media picked up UW’s release about the upcoming Wyoming Open Science Data Summit at UW.
The Laramie Boomerang picked up UW’s release about four nonprofit organizations in Albany County being selected to participate in the spring semester SparkTank competition.
